ABOUT THE AUTHOR
KURT HICKS was born and raised in Oregon and began climbing in the Cascades when he was eleven years old. Over the past two decades he has taught rock, ice, and alpine climbing, backcountry skiing, made first ascents at home and abroad, and worked as a climbing ranger for the National Park Service.
Kurt began his career as a guide in 2004, and is an IFMGA licensed Mountain Guide and AMGA American Mountain Guide. Guiding has taken him to Norway, France, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, and throughout the U.S., from desert towers in the Southwest to high mountain expeditions in Alaska, including multiple ascents of Denali. He has written for Climbing and Backpacker magazines and coauthored the guidebook Backcountry Ski & Snowboard Routes: Washington.
He founded Obvious Gully Press, an independent publisher of outdoor guidebooks to the Pacific Northwest, with his wife, Noelle O'Reilly.
